A Time Honored Tradition

In the ancient forests of Ukraine, beekeepers carry on a time-honored tradition, passed down through generations, including wild-hive beekeeping and the use of tree hollows, called "bortnictvo".

Beekeepers were once revered, and the profession was often viewed with respect and even a touch of magic.

Today, Ukraine remains a significant honey producer, with many beekeepers continuing to practice the trade while facing challenges, particularly in the context of the ongoing war. russia's war in Ukraine has significantly impacted beekeepers, with many losing hives and equipment due to shelling and destruction.

For generations, families has practiced bortnictvo, the art of carving beehives directly into the trunks of living trees. With skilled hands and tools passed down through his lineage, he carefully hollows out spaces in mature trees, creating natural sanctuaries for wild bees.

This practice, learned from his father, who learned it from his own, is a deep connection to the land and a testament to a heritage where humans and nature exist in close harmony.

Each carved hollow is a continuation of an ancient dialogue with the forest, yielding a unique honey imbued with the wild essence of Ukraine.
