Amidst the devastation of war, a group of Ukrainians—scientists, lawyers, farmers, activists, and mothers—risk everything to protect the land they love.

Weaving personal stories with the larger history of Ukraine’s cultural and ecological struggle, foregrounding beauty, tenderness, and resistance in equal measure.

With its poetic tone and emotional depth, the film resists didacticism, instead inviting the viewer into a sensory and soulful experience.

Archival fragments, voiceovers, and dreamlike sequences create a layered, immersive world where war is not only destruction—but also a call to defend life in all its forms.

Olena Kravchenko, an environmental lawyer, builds legal cases to hold invaders accountable while nurturing a defiant hope for justice.

Katya Polyanska gathers evidence of the massive environmental impact bombs and missiles have on wild places, cities and villages.

Lyusya Zymnytska returns to her obliterated home to rebuild and recreate community.

ABOUT THE RACE

HURDLING ORIGINATED IN ENGLAND IN THE EARLY 19TH CENTURY, THE RUNNERS RACE OVER A SERIES OF OBSTACLES CALLED HURDLES, WHICH ARE SET A FIXED DISTANCE APART.

RUNNERS MUST REMAIN IN ASSIGNED LANES THROUGHOUT A RACE, AND, ALTHOUGH THEY MAY KNOCK HURDLES DOWN WHILE RUNNING OVER THEM, A RUNNER WHO TRAILS A FOOT OR LEG ALONGSIDE A HURDLE OR KNOCKS IT DOWN WITH A HAND IS DISQUALIFIED. THE FIRST HURDLER TO COMPLETE THE COURSE IS THE WINNER.
