The Beauty of Your Earth

Earth Day 7.jpg

The Beauty of Your Earth is a poetic, emotionally-charged documentary and a love letter to those defending Ukraine's soul by saving its soil, rivers, forests, and wild and domestic creatures.

Scientists, lawyers, farmers, and activists remain devoted to the cause of protecting their earth in the face of Russia’s brutal war in Ukraine. For each character in the film, their work is not only a vital part of Ukraine’s war effort today, it’s also a defiant commitment to shaping the future of their modern, democratic, free nation.

Weaving personal stories with the larger history of Ukraine’s cultural and ecological struggle, foregrounding beauty, tenderness, and resistance in equal measure.

With its poetic tone and emotional depth, the film resists didacticism by inviting the viewer into the sensory experience of a people fighting for their futures and the homeland they love.

Archival fragments, voiceovers, and cinematically stylized sequences create a layered, immersive world that exists behind news reportage and illustrates the ways Russia’s illegal war has only galvanised the moral imperative to defend life in all its forms.

Filmed in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion, The Beauty of Your Earth  follows an inspiring cast of characters who see the land not as a backdrop to war but as the very heart of what’s at stake.

From the black soil of Kherson to the wetlands of Tuzly Lagoons, from legal battles in Kyiv to quiet acts of replanting and care in villages destroyed by shells, these stories reveal a profound connection between people and place.

We meet Ivan Rusev, a marine biologist who works under threat of russian invasion to protect his national park and the   nesting grounds for millions of migratory birds found there.

Olena Kravchenko, an environmental lawyer, builds legal cases to hold invaders accountable and set historic precedent for international law to recognize ecocide as a crime all while nurturing a defiant hope for justice.

Katya Polyanska gathers evidence of the massive environmental impact bombs and missiles have on wild places, cities and villages as she develops methodologies to address the destruction in her country.

Lyusya Zymnytska returns to her obliterated home to rebuild and recreate community.

Anna Kurkurina, the world’s strongest woman, finds new strength in sheltering animals and leading with compassion.

Ivan Moysiyenko, a resolute and respected botanist speaks of plants as kin and survival as reverence.

Told through intimate vérité and elevated by the evocative music of Natalia Tsupryk, The Beauty of Your Earth is a cinematic meditation on identity, resilience, and the sacred bond between people and the land they call home.
